Thanks a ton! It actually turned out to be that, my hosts.deny file had everything

This happens to me when I try to connect to one of my servers from a
machine that's not in the hosts.allow file.  So this could be a matter
of the server being set to not allow certain hosts to ssh in (some kind
of security control).
