Managers like to hire people with degrees because it provides them more job security.
If a manager decides to hire someone, and if that person does not turn out to be a good employee, then the company loses money because of that hiring decision. Managers look bad when this happens. They look even worse if the person they hired does not have a college degree. Hiring people who already have degrees equates to less risk for the manager making the hiring decision. If that person performs poorly, the manager can always say, ``Well, he had a good GPA and earned a degree. How could *I* have known that he wasn't up for the job?''
