Just found the answer.  The original fedora respository at www.fedora.us
has an apt tree of the latest thing.  Just changed my apt sources.list
and now I am downloading a few (but quite all just yet) of the packages
now.

And because apt isn't as flexible or as smart as it should be, I'm
having a ton of dependency problems.  Kind of reminds me of my
experience trying to move my debian install to unstable...

I noticed they finally have mozilla-1.4.1 in the tree now.  That's nice
since the rpms from mozilla.org were 1.4 and rpm never could figure out
they were newer than 1.2.1.

Will post on how successful I am at apt-get upgrading (heck I've done
full installs of RH 9 before with nothing but a bootstrap chroot root
folder and  apt-get!)
