I am in the precise opposite boat as Jacob, having not taken 428, but I
am in 456 now.

Software engineering is an important thing for any computer programmer
to know well, but from what I heard 428 is not the best way to learn it.
I have heard it described as anywhere from boring busywork to easy A. I
think I would be in the boring busywork boat.

456 has been really interesting. We compare the UI components from
different platforms and programming languages and do programming in
swing. Thinking as programmers do, we often put the cart in front of
the horse when doing UI and really botch things up. Computers would be
a lot more well liked if all programmers had a better sense of UIs.

In summary, I would suggest taking 456.

Subject: [uug] Should I take CS 428 or CS 456?

I am a computer engineer and found out I need two more technical
electivesto graduate, and I am debating CS 428 and CS 456, as two 3
credit classes would hopefully be easier than two 4 credit EE classes.
Those of you that have taken them, how much time did they take, how
difficult were they, would you reccomend them, etc...?
