One workable option (possibly not the best, but effective) would be to add a call to
"rdate -s time.nist.gov" in your connection script.

You might also be able to run ntpd, but I'm not sure how well that works on a mostly
unavailable connection.

Subject: [uug] Syncing time with internet

Since installing Gentoo the clock seems to be losing time. This wasn't a problem
under Red Hat (Gentoo is still better). What methods have you found to be the most
effective for updating the clock from the internet, when the computer is only
connected once or twice a day, if that?
