Yes, I did opengl-update glx, but thanks, I solved it.  I was instructed during the 
emerge process that the driver had been changed from nvidia to nvidia.o, but today x 
didn't start at all, and after some troubleshooting I determined that it doesn't like 
the driver nvidia.o.  So it works now.  Thanks though.

Have you done "opengl-update nvidia"
