This probably has something to do with the silly IDE RAID controller.
You can find instructions for bypassing the RAID and then set up linux
software RAID. I'd really recommend that route.

Unless I'm mistaken recent versions of the kernel bypass the RAID stuff
by default on many IDE controllers (because it's not going to work
anyway). Fedora should do this for you... it did for me... I think.

I would have to agree with Andrew on checking the raid stuff. I have had hard drives plugged into a raid slot that has the option of raid or no raid and installs still wouldn't recognize there was a drive there without some tweaking. Check that out first, and possibly try another option for a live CD if knopix isn't working (gentoo has good live cd's that you can use to see if your hard drives work at all.)

The one question i have here is your choice in distributions. If you are using this for work purposes and it is going to be a production server then do you really want Fedora OR Redhat on here. Unless you are going to pay for redhats server distro i would suggest looking at something else. I am sure that Fedora is working very well for most the people on this list that are using it but i still have enough questions about its stability that i would be weary to put it on a production server. Two quick suggestions would be to check out Debian and Slackware, both are extremely mature distros and are great choices for a server. Debian is very easy to maintain and Slack is just really nice to use (and very unix standards complient.)

Hope you get the bugs out of the vacuum tubes.
