I played around with clamav some time ago, but was fairly disappointed.  
It would not detect many of the inmates of the "virus repository" we 
tried it on, and I think it also (at that time) had problems scanning 
inside zip archives.

Glad to read this!  Do you have any comparisons to other AV products?
Maybe we should look at clamav again.
