I'm starting to add content to my measley web page. Over the last day
or two I've started to compile a list of my favorite shell hacks. Some
of them I've seen various places and others I've come up with
independently.

Anyway, I'd love to hear from all of you what you think the most
essential or just downright cool shell hacks are that you've run across.

Here's my page:

One of my favorites is a step beyond Find's "-exec" capability which
allows you to do anything you want. Unlike -exec, you can use pipes,
conditions, expressions, loops---anything the shell can interpret.

What are the coolest shell hacks you've seen?
