How is the support for ati video cards in 2.6? specifically the radeon 7000 agp card?
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Radeon RV100 QY [Radeon 7000/VE] (prog-if 00 [VGA]) Subsystem: Hightech Information System Ltd.: Unknown device 2902 Flags: bus master, VGA palette snoop, stepping, 66Mhz, medium devsel, latency 32, IRQ 12 Memory at e0000000 (32-bit, prefetchable) [size=128M] I/O ports at 9000 [size=256] Memory at ec020000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=64K] Expansion ROM at <unassigned> [disabled] [size=128K] Capabilities: <available only to root>
Works fine for me. But it wouldn't work with the ati driver until XFree86 4.3. I do have CONFIG_DRM_RADEON=m in my kernel, which is a 2.6 kernel, but I believe it worked in 2.4 as well.
This is with the DRI driver, not ATI's binary-only drivers. See that
perfect example of when not to use a wiki, dri.sf.net, for more details,
especially: http://dri.sourceforge.net/cgi-bin/moin.cgi/ATIRadeon
In short, get XFree86 4.3, make sure CONFIG_DRM_RADEON is in your kernel and that the module is loaded, and you have it configured in your /etc/X11/XF86Config-4, something like this:
Section "Device" Identifier "radeon" VendorName "ATI" Driver "ati" Option "AGPMode" "4" BusID "PCI:01:00:00" EndSection

I will try that, Thank you, I'm still trying to get a 2.6 kernel to run with the ethernet card working, Still googling though.
