A couple of questions.

1) How is this not spam?  By spam, I mean ``unsolicited bulk email''.
   These advertisements are certainly unsolicited, and they are
   delivered in bulk (although in a clever way, as tags on the bottom
   of millions of potentially relevant emails; Microsoft is employing
   Hotmail users as extremely efficient circumventors of spam
   filters).  Why is there such a conspicuous lack of outcry against
   this sort of abuse on this mailing list?  The UUG's network and
   computing resources, and (furthermore) mine, do *not* constitute
   Microsoft's personal advertising medium.  Their advertisements are
   *not* welcome in my inbox.

2) Is the ``onm00200415ave'' portion of the URL a dynamically
   generated identifier that links visits with the sender of the
   email?  That would be a clandestine way of building a dossier of
   relationships between MSN users and their friends and
   associates...
