I want to shut down/power off machines remotely. # shutdown -r now
reboots them, which I don't want. #shutdown now puts them into "maintenance mode." Q. what is maintenance mode anyway? Can I power them off physically when they are in maintenance mode? I want them to turn off remotely without out flipping any switches physically. ideas?
