I use fluxbox (which stands for The Other True Window Manager), and it
will let me resize the window too, or bring it to a different virtual
desktop. If I resize however, then content dissapears. IE, the window
size changes to my whim, but the content size doesn't.

That's good to know :-D unfortunately, it won't help in this case. The
reason I wanted a different sized window is that the insturctions for
what to do with this program are on the class web-page, and I wanted
to be able to view both at once, which I could do, if the program
would run in 800x600.
