You definately CAN use MRTG with non SNMP targets.  MRTG runs a script
which returns numbers formatted properly for MRTG.  I don't have any
examples in front of me at the moment, but I'm sure the all knowing Google
will be helpful.

Target[script_target]: `/usr/local/bin/script.pl`

Something like that seems right.  If you haven't got something working
I'll post my config when I'm home.
