Thanks for letting me know what chipset it is.

After digging around a bit, it appears that madwifi has some problems
with 2.6.8.1, but since the fix causes the module to cease to work in
the 2.4 series, it hasn't been applied to CVS.

Try applying the patch and see if that helps. If not check the projects
homepage on sourceforge and look at the various list archives for your
problem. (gmane also maintains an archive of the list) If that fails,
try joining madwifi-users to see if they can help.
