Sorry to come back so late to the subject, but I was a little disappointed that nobody gave the equivalent English phrase (maybe I didn't read all the replies, though.... There were a lot on this topic):
"The empty can rattles the most." If you would like confirmation that I didn't just make this saying up, you could listen to "My Friend of Misery", by Metallica. Or you could not.
