Which version of Redhat?

In 9 you have to manually patch the kernel to handle greater than 4 GB
of RAM, and you'll have to boot an SMP enabled kernel to handle the 2
CPUS

If you have RHEL 3, then just up2date the SMP kernel, it should handle
RAM less than 16 GB just fine. (if not, there is a hugemem kernel for
large amounts of RAM, but it's not totally stable yet.)
