I had a class once were the professor used several official looking
documentary sites that were completely corrupt and wrong in their information.
just a note - this is true with all published information, regardless of the medium in which its published.
i wouldn't be surprised if the relative amount of misinformation published in books and magazines was similar to that of the web.

Exactly. I gave an entire presentation to a class just to underline this fact. Everyone seems to mistrust Internet sources, but how accurate are those journals which are funded by private sources? And those which acquire revenue from writing about products/things (who are advertised in their same "book"/"hardcopy paper" medium)?
