Hello, everyone,
Last night I was just getting ready to post a mother's helper wanted ad in Daily Universe - we are about to have our fourth child, and my wife does not recover well after a baby. However, the recent discussion about learning how to program inspired me to first try a different route to have those needs met while perhaps helping somebody with theirs in a mutually beneficial way.
So, let's start with the goal on my end - I need to have somebody to help us with the kids and household chores starting in January for the first two weeks from 8am-12pm and from 1pm-5pm, and then just from 8am-12pm for the following two weeks. In exchange, I will teach you or somebody you know how to program.
Any creative or not so create arrangement will work as long as the job gets done. All you need to do is find a way to convince somebody to get it done, and you get tutored.
My qualifications:
- 8 years of professional programming experience
- graduated from BYU with a CS major
- wrote replication in MySQL
- author of "MySQL Enterprise Solutions" published by Wiley
- fluent in C/C++, PHP, Perl, and Java
- tutored my non-technically minded wife, who had no prior exposure to programming, and very little general computer experience in CS 130 (beginning C). At the end, she had to pass a lab programming exam with no external help, and got an A on the exam and in the class.
To make the offer attractive for the mother's helper:
You get to play with three wonderful children - Benjamin, Jenny, and Julia.
Benjamin
- 5 years old
- can add, subtract, multiply, and divide
- solves linear equations in his head ( a*x+b = c)
- fluent reader - reads the Book of Mormon on his own
- has run a 5 K in 27:25 taking 24th place out 53 participants, most of whom were BYU students.
Jenny
- 4 years old - knows the letters and can read simple words - can add up two numbers below ten using her fingers or other objects - has run 1/2 mile in 5:11
Julia - 2 years old - learning to talk - can count to five on occasion - has run 100m in 1:06
Additionally, you will learn to prepare inexpensive healthy and delicious meals, and get to eat them.
Extra benefits:
- Help with Russian ( I am a native speaker)
- Help with marathon training ( I have run 26 marathons, won the Top of Utah Marathon twice, finished 5th in St. George this year, coached my wife to finish a marathon last year, and coached the second place finisher in the Top of Utah this year).
So if you think you can make it work, give me a call. My number is (801)-356-3645
