Has anyone been able to successfully connect to the CAEDM vpn from
off-campus using Linux or FreeBSD?

If you're talking about the VPN for IT 210, I think you need openVPN.
Tha'ts what the instructions say for Windows anyways.
There's a package for Ubuntu at least.
