I've used JFS a little here and there after reading about it and looking at some benchmarks. A fairly recent one that uses the 2.6 kernel is http://linuxgazette.net/122/piszcz.html Has anyone else used JFS? It appears to be somewhat better than XFS and significantly better than Reiser. Of course on those tests, *everything* is better than Reiser in nearly every test. ext3 is still faster at removing files and directories than most other journaled filesystems, but slower at creation. In fact, I was surprised about how incredibly _bad_ ReiserFS (both v3 and v4) are compared to everything else. If it came down to Reiser versus ext3 I'd go ext3 every time. My only beef with JFS so far is the name. Whenever I see it I think "Java File System" and get nauseous at the though ;) -------------------- BYU Unix Users Group http://uug.byu.edu/ The opinions expressed in this message are the responsibility of their author.
