Wow! I don't know if I should drop out now or face utter humiliation
later... but since the heat is on (and for what it's worth):

I'm running for Master-of-the-Universe, but as a starter project I thought
president at a local LUG would give me good experience - after all, a
half-decent *nix-er can do virtually (pun intended) anything that a
Master-of-the-Universe can do, right?

I'm no Black-Belt Gninja, but I have actively participated in the Linux
community for a few years now (google coolaj86) - mostly documentation and a
few simple duck-tape-and-make-things-work-together projects - though I have
to admit I've become a little rusty after the mission. I'm also very well
versed in XP and fairly familiar with OS X 10.3 so I'm not a hater, but what
can I say - I tend towards the more easy-to-use systems that "Just Work"
(TM) out of the box - like Ubuntu.

What I Envision:

   - Formalizing the group
      - Mission Statement
      - Logo
      - Updated website
      - Meetings listed in calendar in a local newspaper (perhaps)
      - Establishing "inward" goals
      - Establishing "outward" / community goals
   - Organizing the Activities and Presentations by people like Todd that we
can all appreciate and learn from.
   - Regular Meetings - Once or twice a month
   - Regular Installfests - Towards the beginning of each term / semester

As president I wouldn't want to take center stage or force too many of my
biases on you (though some of that is obviously inevitable in varying
degrees), but rather help pull together the desires of the group and
coordinate things in such a way that we all feel like we're getting
something out of the time we put in to LUGing together. I would like to keep
on top of things to make sure that we have meaningful meetings planned, the
website stays up to date, the BYU community recognizes that they have
friends to turn to when "holy crap!" moments happen, and be here to give
nudges now and then to motivate the group and it's officers.

And remember: I'm putting $5 towards your pizza, so vote for me!
(hahaha pizza gets 'em every time)

Here are somethings I'm proud of:
VAGUE (a VT LUG) I was president for a few months before my mission.
gentoo-wiki.com - was the number two contributor for a while
http://vuhs-club.livejournal.com/ - my old work blog has stuff about LTSP,
PAM, and Novell
scanbuttond - I added my scanner, created a few scripts (probably still on
the gentoo-wiki), and a .deb
FreeSSHD - I created the "official" user manual (sadly the site is down)
picdir.sh - my dinky little picture sorter. I love it, even if no one else
does.
