A couple of thoughts here.  First off, there's not a single package out
there that supports ODF as it in the spec.  Most packages, including
Abiword, settle for bug-for-bug compatibility with OpenOffice.org.  If
Microsoft implements the spec exactly, there will be compatibility
issues wiht OpenOffice.org.  In that case, who's right and who's wrong?
 An interesting moral dilemma.

In the long run, ODF is a *good* thing.  I'm happy to see MS support it,
but I'd rather it be done in a way that doesn't relegate it to a second
class citizen, which is, sadly, likely.
