Although we are in some sense related to BYU, we are fiscally very
different.  For example, donations to the club are not tax deductable.

I'm president of the ACM, and I have talked with Gene several times about
fundraising.  I'm quite sure that having ads is well within our rights.
Generally, the CS department seems to be quite flexible when it comes to
getting money.  I would guess that the check should be sent directly to
Gene, though.

You may find the ads distasteful, but please do not confuse your opinion
with what is permissible by BYU.

I suggest we:

 - double-check with Gene about finances, to make sure I'm not wrong
 - attempt to elucidate pros/cons
  * check expected income
  * examine decreasing the level of intrusiveness
  * continue to let opinions be expressed
 - vote on it
