Even in "cloud" or "rainbow" computing you could charge for the service. You can even write a traditional desktop application as an interface to your service. Hence, the license management is set at the server where it is more difficult to crack. Example: - User sets up account on-line and buys certain number of reports - User downloads software - User uses software to prepare the data for the report - Software connects to service to crunch out the report - Service validates purchase and runs the report - Software generates human-readable report data (both printed and on screen) - User is happy :-) Whenever the user want to buy more reports, they can go on-line and manage their account there. -- Alberto Treviño BYU Testing Center Brigham Young University -------------------- BYU Unix Users Group http://uug.byu.edu/ The opinions expressed in this message are the responsibility of their author.
