They will be the vi party and the emacs party. A third party will be allowed to interject idealistic and overly simplified positions that are occasionally insightful, but otherwise mostly harmless. They will be the nano party.
New recruits and those without an established preference will be assigned to the nano party. There they will remain until they come to the enlightened realization that ideals don't ultimately lead to real, changing power. Then they will abandon their preparatory party in favor of a more mainstream party; the conservative option with it's general tendency toward escapism, or the do-everything-for-everyone option with it's crippling history. Or history of crippling. Whatever. Despite party differences, we will all be united in the love of our community, kernel-land of the free, ~ of the brave. One society, under development, with stability and progress for all. The world must be made safe for software freedom. It is surely the manifest destiny of the UUG to lead in the attempt to make this spirit prevail. ;-Daniel Fussell -------------------- BYU Unix Users Group http://uug.byu.edu/ The opinions expressed in this message are the responsibility of their author.
