Me again -
Thanks for the help in union and intersecting - That all worked just fine.
Now I have what I want - a table with all the points in polygons and all of
their features

but

many of my shapefile names are very similar, for example, I'll have
 wautoma_2003_perimeter (a wildfire) and
 wautoma_2003_aerial_seeding (a treatment after a wildfire).

I can't figure out how to extend the string of the headings in the resulting
unioned and intersected attribute table so that I can see all of that
information. Instead I get something along the lines of
 wautoma_200_1 and wautoma_200_2
so that unless I write down a code seperately, I won't know which columns are
for the fire and which are for the seeding treatment.

Do I have to change the name in the shape file that is saved on the network? Can I change the name locally and have it save somehow? Can I code it in the metadata?
Or should I just write down a code for myself to refer to every time?

Thanks and have a great weekend!
