Colleagues:
Below, please find details regarding four new GIS postions that we are
advertising at the University of Maryland, College Park.
The University of Maryland (College Park) Department of Geographical
Sciences is establishing a Center for Geospatial Information Science (CGIS).
As part of this Center's initiative, we are creating two new faculty
positions, positions for two fulltime lecturers and a dedicated computer
systems technician. The Department invites applications for two faculty
positions at either the tenured Associate Professor rank or tenure-track
Assistant Professor rank. These positions will have their tenure home in
Geographical Sciences and are expected to start on or about August 2014.
Salary and benefits are highly competitive, commensurate with qualifications
and experience.
We are seeking the most outstanding candidates, with a track record of
publications and awarded grants appropriate to rank, who will expand the
breadth in our research and teaching in Geographic Information Science (GIS)
and help to build the CGIS to a world-leading Center. Research interests
should be in the development of GIS (rather than its use) and/or the
application of GIS to areas of societal benefit. Technology research areas
of interest include: big data infrastructure and analytics, scientific
visualization and geovisualisation, real-time and mobile GIS, machine
learning and spatial knowledge discovery, spatial analysis, spatial
statistics and data science, high-performance and cloud computing, data
security and location privacy, and computer cartography. Applied GIS
research areas of interest include: global environmental change; public
safety and security; public health and well-being; equality in civic
engagement, data-access and social justice; enabling citizen science;
mitigating hazards; and engineering preparedness and resilience.
Applications should include a personal statement of background and
experience relevant to the position, including research, teaching and
service activities, a signed, dated Curriculum Vitae, reprints of selected
peer-reviewed publications, and names and addresses (including e-mail) of
3-5 references.
For best consideration applications should be submitted no later than
January 10, 2014 but the search will continue until a suitable candidate is
appointed.
Further information on this position and on academic and research programs
of the Department may be obtained from the address above and can be found
