Dear UWC alumni, As most of you would have probably heard by now, we are in the process of setting up a UWC National Committee for Great Britain. Yes - the very country where the UWC movement started way back then, and we don't even have our own National Committee. Atlantic College has, so far, been responsible for publicity, selection and fundraising for all the places offered to British students in the UWCs. For some time now, it has been thought that setting up a proper National Committee comprised and run by, mainly, alumni, would be more appropriate to carry out the various tasks. So we're pleased to say that we've finally got off the ground in forming the National Committee of Great Britain.
So, we're appealing to all UWCers living in the UK to, first of all, join the UWC-UK mailing list (if you haven't done so already). We will be using this list- [EMAIL PROTECTED] - to contact our UK-based alums, so tell any floating UK-based UWCers you know who haven't joined already to join this list by sending a blank email to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] We are in the process of compiling personal contact information of all the UWC alums living in the UK, including UWC short course grads, regardless of country of origin and college attended. The establishment of good network information will be vital for the success of the National Committee because we will definitely need contacts, running around, advertisement, etc. all over the country if we want to do publicise the UWCs well and select good students for the UWC. Also, we are aware that there are lots of keen UWCers spread all over the UK, who desperately want to get re-involved with the movement in an active way but don't quite know how. We will, in future years, be contacting alums to help by posting advertisements in magazines or local newspapers, conducting talks in schools, church groups, or youth groups, by distributing leaflets, etc. So unless you hate the UWCs and are desperately trying to forget that phase of your life in Montezuma, Vale of Glamorgan, Duino, Victoria, Fjaler, etc., you should definitely want your details to be in our Network Information. Please send your Name, Address (term-time and "permanent" address if you're a student or other nomad), contact telephone number, UWC and year of graduation, and email, to this email address, with NETWORK in the subject line. Be assured that the information you give us will be kept secure according to the Data Protection Act, and that it will only be used for the purpose of communication between us (the National Committee) and UWC alumni. If we are contacted by any other UWC alumni requesting for contact details, we will first ask your permission before disclosing your details. Oh, and I know some of you are thinking "what about Northern Ireland", and getting ready to pounce on the reply button to start some heated debate about using the term "Britain" instead of "United Kingdom" - I should explain that Northern Ireland, being far more organised, already has their own Selection Committee and has been operating independently of the AC selections for a number of years to select Northern Irish representatives for the UWCs. We will definitely keep you all updated on our progress in setting this committee up! Thank you, Sabrina Das Network Co-ordinator UWC National Committee of Great Britain AHUWC Class of '99 _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp
