convenient how the corporate setups limit the amount of extra work the need to
do

try this
on a windows machine
# create an empty directory and cd to it
uwin-base.YYYY-MM-DD.win32.i386.exe -iv
# copy base.pax to a unix machine
on the unix machine
tar xvf base.pax awk.exe bc.exe
