It appears everyone seems to automatically go to the Progressives, is this
because they are so perfect for a V-Max or hardly anyone has tried any other
 fork spring alternatives?
Also which of the Works shocks would be recommended as the best for normal
daily riding, touring and occassional high speed cornering work. Prime
requirement is still a comfortable ride in varying road conditions (I don't
want bone jarring suspension) but with better than stock handling still with
stock wheels and a stock engine with only pipes and jetting.
My bike is a '99 model.

Sam, I do not Know about the Progressive springs as I have Works Performance
fork springs and the Works Performance Steel Street Trackers with the ARS cup
shocks. The shocks work great as they are valved for my weight and if I am
touring or carrying a passenger I just adjust the ARS cup to a stronger
spring setting. The fork springs work great in combination with a Race Tech
Cartridge Emulator. Works provides 3 crossover tubes for the springs, however
after many different combinations I eliminated the use of the crossover tube.
I made up several sets of preload spacers out of 1" PVC pipe & have settled
with 9-1/2" preload, the Works Springs with no crossover, The Cartridge
Emulator with 2-1/2" turns, 15wt Bardahl Synthetic Fork Oil and no air
pressure in the forks. Now they are responsive, very compliant, do not
bottom out, and are comfortable for sport and touring. At this point I
believe this works well and I do not see the need to go any further with the
suspension. Next, I am starting on Chassis stiffening. I hope this helps
with your suspension woes. Tim Applen VMOA #1036 , Minneapolis, Minnesota
