The E/EC service manual supplement is of course for '93 and up ...
('92 I suppose for Canada .. I won't get into that ... but it is safe
to say ... it was the year they had purple and the year before they
had yellow) ........  I really don't know if we will ever get a
straight answer on this one. I was relatively confident that any of
the newer ignitors did infact have some rev-limiting capability at
around 11-11.2K. I grew this "assumption" from my own experiences,
(not much different than Charles .. except one of mine was a green
Kawasaki), and from the posts of others. It also has been made very
clear that the earlier ignitors would let you rev until you were
wearing motor oil. Obviously, there are some people with what appears
to be "late model" ignitors that have exceeded even this parameter. I
suspect many don't want to see 11K or even 10K .. and an aftermarket
rev-limiter might be the solution to make sure that doesn't happen.
