Gary,
Glad to hear that richening up the pilot worked out for you. Yes ..
the DJ160 should give you about the same results as a Mikuni 150 so
you have made quite a jump. Actually you could go all the way back up
to a DJ180 and then you would be just about where you were with the
original MK170 PAJ2. If you are "in range" now .. meaning you have
gotten rid of the 1800 RPM spitting back through the carbs etc ... and
think the "low end" is fairly responsive then you may not need to go
to a larger pilot fuel jet at all. I suspect that 1500 creates a lot
more "suck" power than a stocker and the fine tuning with the PAJ2 may
be all that you need. If you do put the larger pilot fuel jets in then
I suspect you will most certainly have to take a big step back the
other way on the PAJ2, (to a bigger hole !!).

Perhaps .. coming back up on the pilot now might make the difference
for your altitude problem ... just keep "cutting it in half" .. going
from a 160 back up to a 170 will make a big difference .. if it is too
much then drop back down to the DJ165, (or a MK152.5 or 155 .. since
the DJ165 sits right in between those two hole size wise). I suspect
you are barely touching the throttle with that engine even cruising at
70-80 mph ... so I wouldn't be surprised if they aren't still very
much in the picture and may be responsible for your altitude problem.
Of course .. you could always drop that needle another 1/2 click.

Sooooooooo .. how is the new engine ?? I had been wanting to ask you
anyhow since you appear to be using yours for regular duty ... and not
primarily for terrorism ..... (did I say Phil ??!?) .....
IMHO ...
