Need some advise with my carb problem - comments welcome. I have a
pretty much stock 1993 Vmax (Canadian) with the following problem. Carb
#1 does not react when you turn in the pilot screw all the way. I
normally have them about 2-3 turns out. The spark plug from that
cylinder runs very black/sooty - but not wet. I've taken the carbs off
and cleaned them to the best of my ability. I've swapped pilot screws
with carb #1 and #2 on re-assembly. I've checked all the float levels
and they are correct. I've removed the pilot screw from carb#1 and
blowen the pilot hole out a number of times.
Fuel filter is new. All other carbs 'stumble' when their pilot screws
are turned all the way in and the other spark plugs are normal.
What should I try with this carb #1? Are some air passages blocked?
Where is the fuel coming from if this pilot screw is not functioning? I
may have to take the carbs apart and take carb#1 to the dealer, as a
last resort. Need to get this working right before I head off to
Sturgis. Power and fuel mileage seemingly have not been greatly
affected, to date.
Thanks in advance for your help.
