Hi Guys,
Well, I started a bunch of you thinking about oils and how they work.... And
that is a good thing.
Note, I wasn't out to trash synthetic oil,,,, NO Way! heck I use them in my
own stuff WHEN IT IS Justified!
When is that???? Well, like in my darling wifes car. It get 100% synthetic
cause she'd be hard press to notice if some local "homeboys" stole the
wheels off her Maxima. She'd get in the thing and call me on her cell phone
that it was makeing weird noises and wouldn't move. Do you think she keeps
up her oil level and changes when due?
My Toyota pu get the 79 cent castrol stuff cause I look after it. The
yamahas get yamaha lube changed every 1500 to 2000 or so. They get 100%
synthetic if I'm going on a long road trip. If it were cold here (below 40)
or hot here (over 90) I'd use 100% all the time. IT is mild here year round
and 99% of my riding is in the city meaning short trips so I need lots of
oil changes to get the crud out. The expense of 100% is a waste to me.
The main point I was after is that 100% synthetic DOESN"T MEAN YOU SHOULD
EXTEND YOUR OIL CHANGE INTERVALS. I've been getting feedback for quite some
time that a lot of people think that 100% synthetic is somekind of superman
sheild that protects everything from everything forever and ever. Well, it
does give a little margin for error,,,, but there are real limits.
Someone mentioned Shell Rotella T.... That oil was designed from scratch to
meet Caterpillar requirements.
Anyone that love engines and has every been inside a "CAT" knows the meaning
of real quality.... The parts in a "CAT" are better than the ROLLS-ROYCE
aircraft engines that powered the Spitfires and P-51 fighter planes. That
oil will handle a lot and is just excellent.
As far as oil and gears go..... do you know that many medium duty truck
manual transmissions use 50 wt auto oil???
Anti-foaming additives are common today. The Super-duper oil suppliers like
to hype things that are common in most oils. They just act like they just
thought of it. Sort of like Gore and the internet deal.
