I support getting rid of dead code and simplifying the code base, but these
2 features are likely not the right target for it yet.

Single generation mode is mostly being used for development, debugging and
evaluations.
It's not used anywhere in production as far as I know, but we shouldn't
remove it in my opinion.

I'm not aware of current usages of the 8GB mode, but I think it's still
being considered as an option for the future, so we should keep it around
as well.
