Chrome on Android is performing poorly in the Discourse app

All we've been able to determine is that Chrome is spending all of its time
in v8.callFunction.
In the following zip are recordings for two actions:
* loading a new topic
* going back to home view
The exported recordings:
* DevTools timeline
* CPU profile
* tracing trace

To test:
A running instance of Discourse is at http://meta.discourse.org - to see
the slowness I suggest entering a topic with at least 20 posts in it.
