This is not a V8 issue; V8 doesn't know about elements, ids, or titles (or
the DOM in general, which is specified by the embedder).
FWIW, the HTML spec says that "ID and NAME tokens must begin with a letter
([A-Za-z]) and may be followed by any number of letters, digits ([0-9]),
hyphens ("-"), underscores ("_"), colons (":"), and periods (".").".
I haven't checked, but I guess the implementation just converts any value
to a string before actually assigning it, which seems reasonable to me.
