If the truck manual says don't use a load equalizing hitch, then it means the frame is weak and unsuited for towing. Not a good choice for a tow vehicle because on a small truck a load equalizing hitch is important to control. Much control is lost when the back bumper is pushed way down by the trailer tongue weight and the front bumper is up in the air taking weight off the steering wheels. This gets worse when the trailer brakes are applied forcing the trailer tongue down more. A frame that isn't strong enough for a load equalizing hitch will deflect under ordinary loads adding to instability of the combination. Gerald J.
