My experience with older vehicles, (I tend to drive a vehicle ten to 15
years on the average) is that some parts need replacement to prevent on
the road failures. Rubber hoses and parts like belts under the hood I
consider need to be replaced at least every ten years, also water pumps
now matter that the mileage doesn't show them worn out. Ford's rubber
tie rod ends are something that needs replacing sooner. Ford's and
probably other's fuel pressure regulator also needs to be replaced at
similar intervals. When it fails it can trash a perfectly fine engine,
mine did that last winter at only 77,000 miles. Saves fixing them on the
road when we'd rather be traveling.
