If you're not confident about what you're doing, it's always better to
slavishly follow the instructions provided. This is going to limit how many
different things you can combine together (that will come with experience).

Yes, there are some differences between Ubuntu and Debian - most of the
time they do present serious obstacles.

Looking at my most-used ubuntu install, it has exactly that yarn.list file,
so I feel reasonably confident that you can use those instructions from
debian on your ubuntu box.
