The only supported upgrade path is incremental, AFAIK, except that I think LTS
releases should upgrade cleanly to the next LTS release, or something like that.

Anyway, I always upgrade from one Ubuntu release to the next.  I've had some
minor issues, on one or two releases, but they were usually reasonable easy to
work around (force deinstallation of a package, etc...).  I'm pretty familiar
with APT, so that does help.

Ubuntu is working hard to make upgrades smoother, though (and Debian upgrades
have been smoother than the RPM-based distro's are for a long time, or so I
understand :).  Be a shame not to take advantage of all of the effort being put
in.
