Hi Folks, I am sorry, if I sounded inflammatory, I don't mean to. This is not the first time I am dealing with these folks. Besides, I can be cool and calm and convincing, and I have been that, done that, I clearly did not see even normal curiosity about an alternate way. I can't prove anything, but I can tell you, VITL was founded with a pre-planned agenda for steering towards GE and other big players. Or, may be , it's nobody-gets-fired-for-buying-IBM kind of thing.
Mr.Flint talked eloquently about CCHIT. VITL, instead of insisting on CCHIT certification, should find out what CCHIT entails and make sure those criteria are met, instead of a boiler-plate certfication, the reason being it's expensive for any Vermont vendor. Another factor is that, please don't underestimate the damage that VITL can do. For example. I run a FOSS system and soon they make it difficult for talking to other systems from an Open system. Of course, there are standards (not so open) and most proprietary system implement a sub-set of the standard . Think about Internet Explorer. Another example - eScript, ramming down our throat by the federal goverment. The protocol is proprietary, and I would have to shell out $800.00 to even get a copy of the specifications. Closer to home, the Vermont Health Department after so many years of failed attempts, have implemented an Immunization Registry System, which we can use only from Internet Explorer. Your tax dollars at work :-) I can mind my own business, running OpenEMR, and running a good medical practice. Soon, we'll be an island, not being able to talk to the other proprietary systems. I should be, at least, able to talk my govt, sometimes, may be , inflammatory ! I am originally from India. I just returned from India. The biggest insurance company, Life Insurance Corp of India, and most of the big banks run Red Hat. Please keep any biases against Indians away from me, I have lived in Vermont for 28 years. Thanks, balu raman
