I've been using groups.io for a listserv I maintain for our local Esperanto
group, after learning about it from the wider Esperanto community some of whom
migrated their lists their when Yahoo Groups died. Mine is a low volume list,
but groups.io seems to work nicely.

Hi Ron,

To host a list on LIST.UVM.EDU, there needs to be someone from UVM (typically
faculty or staff) to sponsor it and act as the primary administrator/editor.
UVM won't host a list without an affiliate to run it.

Products:

If it has to be LISTSERV, L-SOFT will sell lists on a SaaS basis (this is
called "ListPlex")
http://www.lsoft.com/products/listplex_pricing.asp<https://nam04.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.lsoft.com%2Fproducts%2Flistplex_pricing.asp&data=04%7C01%7Ctony.harris%40CCV.EDU%7Cea00ed274e1c46fabddf08d94f9b993d%7Cb17e9703dbdd49fa909c03dfd13086af%7C0%7C0%7C637628352587819078%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000&sdata=J%2FcuonupfU0TY2ADHAMKuDOuD%2Bct33f4iv9BgkGIjMs%3D&reserved=0>

Less expensive:

 starting at $6/month

Gratis ... Google Groups will do mailing lists. There's also Your mailing
list provider (ymlp.com). You should expect these services to monetize via
advertisements in your list.

Note that I only have personal experience with LISTSERV, and Google Groups.

Other members of this list may have some other suggestions.

Happy hunting,

Jim

O.K. It may seem a little ridiculous asking ListServe recipients about a

it legitimate to ask for a new group to be established?

I actually have several groups for which I would like to facilitate better
communications, and social media is not the way to go. So, I was wondering
if this group might have some recommendations. The big thing is that people
should be able to easily add or remove themselves from the list.

Thanks in advance,
