You see it as painful, i see it as a feature, it means that i can replace Object by IdentityObject and still be binary backward compatible.
OK, now we're getting to the actual problem you're concerned about -- that you think that there will be a lot of new binary compatibility issues as a result of this. I am less worried about that, so perhaps you could outline where you think we're creating a problem, and we can evaluate whether that is bad? Seems to me we may be in solution-to-not-really-a-problem territory.
