The next release, version 3.0, will use Jabber as the server
back-end,effectively open-sourcing the server implementation. The
client-side code for communicating with the server will also go open source,
though possibly not until version 3.1. That will leave the
save-game-to-disk and the optional-password-registration code as
proprietary. The save-game code will probably be opened up next, whereas
the registration code will always be proprietary.
