Thanks for the suggestion Rick, but I have already been there....... Got a memory could not be read error that crashed the IDE.
Now interestingly enough, it works in Visdata...... So I am assuming that the Driver has a problem with ADO. I have tried enabling tracing, and found, that there is no trace file for the attempts to access the database through ADO, only DAO i.e. visdata. I have about given up on the FreeWare/Open Source ODBC drivers for Interbase/Firebird. The only native OLEDB driver I can find carries a price tag of $600, so I don't think I will be going there. That's almost all I am getting for what was to be a two day job. (one of which I have just wasted on ODBC drivers). I think I will just use DAO. This job is aimed at Windows 2k servers, which came with MDAC 2.5 installed, so I will not even have to distribute the DAO files.
