Hi Shawn,
Thanks for your reply. I guess it's possible I have a virus but I run
up-to-date versions of both AVG and NAV constantly and my system gets a full
scan from each every day and so far neither has found anything. I don't see
how I could recognise (or even measure) increased port 25 traffic as I have no
starting point to measure an increase against. If you have other suggestions
for trapping any nasties that I may have I'd love to hear them , I know this is
a favourite subject of yours.

While I'm on <grins> do you have any thoughts on my WinInet question?

Regards
Ian

These are often the results of viruses that parse text that appears
to be email addresses from everywhere on your system (including
browser cache, app data folders, temp files...) and uses them as
both senders and recipients of messages. I'm not saying that this
*was* that, but it could very well be.

I would recommend virus scanning your system and checking for
increased port 25 traffic on your desktop. If you're infected it'll
be a little slower and browsers usually are slower to open.
