9 Month Contract This position is responsible for creating comprehensive and deployable models that represent solid business requirements and yet are well understood and implementable by DBA's, application and report developers. Position will focus on solution delivery while maintaining the benefits of flexibility and abstraction to change found in good data modeling disciplines. The solutions created will support both enterprise level databases (ODS, DW) as well as application specific databases (CRM, Supply chain, Star Schema data marts). Creates Extraction and Transformation Layer (ETL) operability (data specifications that are in tune with the way users will access the data and the types of reports and queries they will run. Identifies and designs facts and dimensions as appropriate to the defined user requirements. ** *Responsibilities include: * - Performs detailed data analysis. - Develops dimensional data models. - Demonstrated ability to learn existing corporate data models. - Demonstrated strong modeling skills with an emphasis on data warehouse design techniques. - Participates in business requirements definition activities. Assists in developing the overall data architecture strategy. - Works closely with Information Technology and Business employees to ensure successful completion of projects. *Qualifications: * - Strong technical leader with 5 - 10 years of successful data architecture development, and on-line data store and data warehouse design. - Substantial background in Dimensional Modeling techniques and practices. - Strong technical development skills to include SQL and XML development. - Demonstrated working knowledge of data warehousing / business intelligence technologies. - Experience with Online Analytic Processing (OLAP) and analytic tools like Brio, Business Objects, Cognos, and Micro Strategy. - Experience with Multidimensional Database (MDDB/MOLAP) tools - Excellent command of models that are fully attributed from those that are sparsely attributed and understand the necessity to represent requirements from both perspectives. Master the capture and management of model metadata that describes the logical to physical mapping characteristics as well as source to target mapping characteristics for database population. - Understand the different users (technical vs. business) for metadata. - Understands the difference between 2NF, 3NF, and dimensional data models. - Understands the difference between logical and physical data models, including the proven ability to create valid third normal form data models, and then appropriately denormalize them for physical performance requirements. - Show proven capability with business interaction for facilitation and gathering of requirements for application and database design. - Understand the differences between normalization and design of OLTP environments from Data Warehouse environments. - Excellent communications skills; professional presentation skills; self-starter; cooperative attitude; team player. - Fluent in one or more data modeling tools (ERWIN, Rose, Embarkadero) used to create and forward and reverse engineer modeling solutions and data analysis. - Excellent command of modeling techniques including ERD's, CRUD, DFD's etc. that are used to capture and communicate business requirements from a data perspective. - Knowledge of server operating systems: Windows 2000/NT, Unix or OS/390 Knowledge of SQL in at least one: Microsoft SQL, Sybase, DB2, or Oracle.
