After installing the new VirtualBox 4.0 on my Linux system it does not  
want to start my Windows guest VMs any longer and shows me a  
VERR_SUPLIB_OWNER_NOT_ROOT error.

The log file has more details:

And yes, that is correct, the owner of my /usr1 directory is not root,  
but what the heck does VirtualBox suddenly care about that?
On my system /usr1 is a directory where I have installed a number of  
larger applications, most files there and the directory itself belong  
to a non-root owner.
